Description
On behalf of the National Occupational Research Agenda (NORA) Healthy Work Design and Well-being Cross-Sector Council and the NIOSH Total Worker Health® Program, join us on October 20th for a special National Work and Family Month webinar, “Promoting a Sustainable Work-nonwork Interface.” First, we will hear from Dr. Susan Lambert from the University of Chicago on improving work schedules in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic. Next, Dr. Tammy Allen will present on COVID-19 and Women, including strategies to address the impact on women’s workforce participation. Following the presentations, Dr. Leslie Hammer from the Oregon Health and Sciences University will moderate an interactive Q&A discussion. Free continuing education is available.

Allen, Ph.D (Professor @University of South Florida) ., is a Distinguished University Professor of Psychology at the University of South Florida. Her work focuses on topics related to work and family, organizational practices such as remote work, and employee career development. Her research has received over 43,000 citations and has been recognized through multiple best paper awards. She is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Psychological Association (APA), the Association for Psychological Science, the Academy of Management, and the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology (SIOP). Tammy is the 2021 recipient of the Herbert Heneman Jr. Award for Career Achievement from the Human Resources Division of the Academy of Management and the 2022 recipient of the Ellen Galinsky Generative Researcher Award from the Work Family Research Network. Dr. Susan Lambert (Professor @University of Chicago) is a Professor at the University of Chicago Crown Family School of Social Work, Policy, and Practice. Her research seeks to identify strategies for balancing the needs of employers for labor flexibility with the needs of workers for stable and predictable hours and earnings. Lambert’s research includes randomized experiments of interventions to improve scheduling practices in retail settings and analyses of national data on the prevalence and ramifications of precarious scheduling practices in the US labor market. She is currently studying the implementation and ramifications of municipal-level work scheduling laws in the context of the coronavirus pandemic. Dr. Leslie B. Hammer (Associate Director @Oregon Health & Science University) is the Associate Director of Applied Research and Professor in the Oregon Institute of Occupational Health Sciences at Oregon Health & Science University and the Co-Director of the Oregon Healthy Workforce Center, one of 10 centers of excellence in Total Worker Health®. She is also a Professor Emerita at Portland State University. She specializes the effects of workplace conditions, including supportive supervision at work, occupational stress, and work-nonwork stress, on workplace mental health and well-being of workers. She has extensive experience in designing, implementing, and evaluating worksite interventions and supervisor training to improve such employee outcomes. She conducts applied research that focuses on workplace interventions aimed at improving supervisor leadership skills and in turn, the impact of such trainings on both supervisor and worker mental and physical health, safety, and well-being.
